How to write a care job advert that gets applications

Updated 29 October 2026

Care workers often compare several adverts before they apply. Clear, honest adverts get more and better applications. Here is what to include and what to avoid.

Use a plain job title

Use the words people search for, such as "Care Assistant", "Support Worker" or "Senior Carer", and add the town. Avoid internal titles that applicants will not recognise.

Show the pay

Put the hourly rate or salary in the advert. Say whether nights, weekends or bank holidays pay more, and for home care, how travel time and mileage are paid. Adverts without pay are often skipped.

Be clear on hours and contract

Say whether hours are guaranteed, the shift pattern, and the contract type (permanent, bank, part-time or full-time). Applicants want to know if the job fits around their life before they apply.

Say what support you give

  • Paid induction and the Care Certificate
  • Shadow shifts before working alone
  • Funded Level 2 or Level 3 diplomas
  • Who pays for the DBS check
  • Regular supervision and a named manager

If you welcome people new to care, say so clearly. It widens your pool of applicants.

Keep it short and easy to apply

Describe a typical day in a few sentences, list the essentials and keep the application quick. Long forms lose applicants, especially on mobile.

A quick checklist

  • Plain job title and town
  • Pay up front
  • Hours and contract type
  • Training and support
  • What you need from applicants (DBS, right to work, driving licence if needed)
  • A simple way to apply

On Amica Connect you can post unlimited care jobs free for 3 months, then £49 a month, with no placement fees. Applicants apply directly to you with their DBS, right to work and references already on their profile.

Common questions

Should I include pay in a care job advert?

Yes. Adverts that show pay are easier to compare and usually get more relevant applications.

How long should a care job advert be?

Short enough to read on a phone. A few sentences on the role, then clear lists of pay, hours, support and requirements.
